A group home for people with eating disorders is getting the go ahead in Town and Country.

The Board of Aldermen Monday night unanimously approved a conditional use permit for a McCallum Place residential treatment center in a single-family home the 13,400 block of Conway Road.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the city had little say over the plan because it met with conditions set by state law.

The home, which sits alone on 18 acres near Maryville University, would serve up to eight people.  The paper reports that other than some striped parking spaces, there would be no changes to the site.

McCallum Place operates other eating disorder treatment facilities in Webster Groves and Kirkwood.

A 150 unit luxury senior living center proposed on a 12 acre site at Clayton and Mason Roads in west St. Louis County is unlikely to happen.

The Town and Country Planning and Zoning Commission  Wednesday night voted unanimously to turn down a proposal by Allegro Senior Living.

About 200 people had attended the meeting and dozens spoke against the project.    Most cited concerns over traffic and property values.

The zoning commission will recommend that the Board of Alderman reject the project.  They'll list "no evidence" the community needs such a facility among their list of seven reasons.

This is the second proposed senior housing development to cause controversy in St. Louis county recently.  The other is a low-income development already under construction along Telegraph Road in South County.  Opponents are trying to get county officials to halt that project.

Charges are filed against a St. Louis County woman for allegedly stabbing her husband to death.

Police say they were called to the couple's home around 1 AM Thursday for an apparent homicide. That is where they found 76-year-old Ivan Mullenix Sr. dead from an apparent stabbing. Officers also found 69-year-old Mary Mullenix in the house and she was taking into custody.

Town and Country Police say they were called to same house earlier for a domestic disturbance.

Mary Mullenix is held on a half-million dollar bond.
