A child was thrown from a car during a serious accident this afternoon.
Police say an officer saw a driver speeding on Broadway towards the River City Casino. The officer tried to pull the suspect over, but the driver increased speed and ran several traffic lights. At the intersection of Broadway and Marceau the suspect slammed into several cars. Two adults suffered minor injuries and a 4-year-old child was ejected from a vehicle. The child is in critical condition.
Crews remain at the scene.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — An accident has claimed the life of a worker inside the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company in north St. Louis.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that 42-year-old Mensud Djelmo was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the worker became trapped Friday night in a packing unit machine. Another worker found him while returning from his break and called police. The investigation is ongoing.
And in another case of deja vu, two workers were injured after problems with their scaffolding.
The workers were part of the construction team building a new CVS pharmacy in Bridgeton. The workers fell 15 feet when their scaffolding became unstable. Both have non-life threatening injuries. Yesterday, four window washers had to be rescued after their scaffolding collapsed. None of the four were seriously hurt.
Another St. Louis County Police Officer was involved in a traffic accident today.
The officer was driving in the 12000 block of Manchester Road, when an SUV veered into the officer's lane. The two vehicles collided and the cruiser was sent into a utility pole. The officer was taken to the hospital for minor burns from the airbag deployment.
The driver of the SUV also suffered minor injuries. No charges will be filed.
A suspect's attempt to flee police came to a painful end today.
The man was attempting to drive away from police on southbound 55 when he stopped his car, got out, and started to run. The suspect hopped over the median and tried to run across the northbound lanes when he collided with a car. Police shut down the highway while they treated the victim. No word on his condition.
The suspect was wanted for outstanding felony warrants.
A 13-year-old boy with autism is hospitalized after being struck by a car in St. Louis County.
The accident happened about 3:00 this morning. The boy has a broken jaw and head injuries, and is in serious condition. Police say the driver of the Chevrolet Impala that struck the boy said it was dark and by the time he saw him it was too late.
Authorities say the boy has a history of wandering away from home.
A St. Louis County police officer is in the hospital after she crashed into a KFC.
Police say the officer was responding to a call when her car was clipped by another driver. The cruiser crashed into a nearby KFC restaurant. The officer suffered a broken ankle, but is expected to be okay. Employees were inside the business when the accident happened, but none were injured.
Police say the officer had her lights and sirens on when the accident happened. The driver who hit the officer stayed at the scene.
The accident happened near Bellefontaine and Larrimore in North County.
Charges are filed against 17-year-old Charles Guice in the hit-and-run that killed a 2-year-old boy.
He faces one count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident. On Sunday night, officers found a 17-year-old woman and the 2-year-old boy in road--witnesses said they were hit by a driver in a white SUV. The teen survived the accident, but the toddler died.
Police found the vehicle on Monday and Guice turned himself in when he found out police were looking for him. He told officers he was scared, and that is why he drove away from the accident.
Leaving the Scene of an Accident is a Class D felony, meaning a conviction could carry a sentence of no more than four years in prison. No other charges were announced.
Police are questioning a person of interest connected to the hit-and-run that killed a two-year-old boy in North County last night.
St. Louis County Police say they found the SUV that hit the boy and his aunt Sunday night. The accident happened on Redmond Road in Spanish Lake. 2-year-old Darion Griffin died, his 17-year-old aunt Sheria Evans was hospitalized. No word on any charges in the case.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Police say two people have died in a collision involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV just outside the St. Louis city limits.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that after the collision early Saturday, the tractor-trailer continued southbound driving through two power poles, hitting a fence and a pontoon boat. The trailer wound up on its side, spilling its contents of beer bottles and cans across the road.
The drivers of both vehicles were killed. The names of the victims haven't been released.
Police also said a section of the roadway would be closed while authorities investigated the cause of the accident and debris was removed from the scene.
