A metro-east school district is trying to determine if one of its teachers helped students cheat on state achievement tests last year.  The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Highland Community Unit School District 5 has launched an internal investigation this week.

Superintendent Michael Sutton tells the paper they're investigating allegations from some students that point toward "testing irregularity" during administration of the Illinois Standard Achievement Test last school year (2012-13). The teacher under investigation isn't being identified.

The district's findings will be submitted to the state Board of Education which will make a final determination.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Last summer when dozens of nuclear missile officers were allegedly cheating on proficiency exams, test scores were among the lowest of the year, according to Air Force records obtained by The Associated Press.

That is the opposite of what might be expected if answers were being shared as widely as officials allege.

No explanation is obvious, and the Air Force is not saying why test results were not better if, as alleged, at least 40 officers were cheating.

The case is still under official investigation.

The AP reviewed all test scores for 2013 for the unit in question — the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. It found relatively weak scores during August and September, the period of alleged cheating.

A person familiar with deliberations tells The Associated Press that Major League Baseball has informed the New York Yankees that Rodriguez will be suspended Monday but can play while he appeals the penalty. The person said the Yankees were not told the exact length of the suspension, but were left under the impression it will be through the 2014 season.

The person also said Rodriguez could get a shorter penalty for violating baseball's drug agreement if he gives up the right to file a grievance and force the case before an arbitrator.

Rodriguez said on Saturday that he planned to rejoin his teammates in time for Monday's series opener at Chicago. Manager Joe Girardi said he will pencil A-Rod into the lineup.

A second source says MLB planned an announcement for noon EDT Monday.

Thirteen other players faced discipline following baseball's probe of the Biogenesis of America anti-aging clinic. All-Stars Nelson Cruz of Texas and Jhonny Peralta of Detroit are among those facing the stiffest penalties.

Toronto outfielder Melky Cabrera, Oakland pitcher Bartolo Colon and San Diego catcher Yasmani Grandal served suspensions after positive tests last year. They've been tied to this performance-enhancing drug case, but can't be disciplined again for the same offense.
