Macy's in downtown St. Louis set to close this summer
94 employees at the downtown Macy's are starting the job search.
The retailer announced they plan to close their downtown store this summer. Macy's officials say that eligible workers will be offered a severance options. The retail giant still employees around 3,000 people in stores, warehouses, and a distribution center in the metro area.
The downtown Macy's store opened in 1924.
Sewer collapse will shut down lanes for days
Drivers in downtown St. Louis could encounter problems at the intersection of Washington and Jefferson.
MSD says a 150-year-old section of sewer pipe collapsed. The pipe was 20 feet underground, but opened up a hole in the road. A spokesperson with MSD tells KTRS, drivers should expect two lanes of Westbound Washington to remain closed for at least a few days, but there is no estimate on when work will be completed.
City closes flood gates downtown
The city of St. Louis is closing several flood gates to keep the Mississippi River out of the city after heavy rain swept through the region on Thursday.
The St. Louis City Streets Department began closing and raising the gates Friday morning as the river is expected to crest on Wednesday at 39.5 feet.
Officials closed four gates Friday and erected the gates at Poplar Street and Carr Street along Lenore K. Sullivan Boulevard.
City officials said crews would continue to shut gates throughout the weekend. They said the schedule could change depending on the latest forecasts and needs of businesses impacted by the rising river.
Two dozen people arrested in downtown St. Louis over weekend
ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police are advising parents to keep their teenagers from loitering in downtown St. Louis after two dozen people, mostly juveniles, were arrested over the weekend.
Twenty juveniles and four adults are facing charges after police received complaints Saturday night that large groups of young people were blocking traffic and sidewalks in the area around Broadway and Market.
The juveniles were charged with disturbing the peace. The adults were charged with peace disturbance and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Go! St. Louis Marathon events to draw thousands this weekend
Thousands of runners are expected to converge on downtown St. Louis as part of the Go! St. Louis Marathon events.
That marathon starts near the Arch and winds all the way to downtown Clayton. The starting gun fires at 7AM Saturday.
The half marathon is drawing a lot of attention this year. Organizers announced a $10,000 first prize--the fourth largest in US history for a half-marathon. The entire weekend of events could draw over 20,000 people.
