BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A spokeswoman says a medical emergency among the crew of a Seattle-bound United Airlines flight prompted an emergency landing in Boise.

Boise airport spokeswoman Patti Miller says an apparent heart attack on-board United flight 1603 prompted the emergency landing just before 8 p.m. on Thursday. The flight originated in Houston and was headed to Seattle.

Miller says initial reports said the flight's captain suffered the heart attack. But United Airlines spokeswoman Christen David says it was a member of the crew serving the Boeing 737 that had a medical emergency. She says paramedics met the flight and took the crew member to the hospital.

David says the airline is working to accommodate the 161 passengers who are in Boise waiting for a flight to Seattle.

SANDWICH, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say one person is injured after a small home built airplane en route from St. Louis had to make an emergency landing in an unincorporated area outside Chicago.

The (Aurora) Beacon News reports that Kendall County sheriff's police officers were called to the scene just before 11 a.m. Sunday.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro says the light sport aircraft left a small airport in St. Louis and the pilot reported engine trouble in Illinois. Emergency crews found the plane had made an emergency landing in a field not far from Sandwich.

Both people aboard were taken to a local hospital. One was treated for minor injuries and the other was evaluated.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Officials say a helicopter owned by an Afghan company has made an emergency landing in a Taliban-controlled area of eastern Afghanistan, and the insurgents took all nine people who were aboard hostage.

A district administrator in the area says the helicopter landed on Sunday afternoon in strong winds and rain in a village of Logar province, southeast of Kabul and about 30 kilometers (or 20 miles) from the Pakistan border.

Hamidullah Hamid said on Monday that the Taliban captured all nine aboard the aircraft and took them from the area. He says the crew and passengers are all civilian.

Logar deputy police chief, Rais Khan Abdul Rahimzai, says the helicopter is owned by the Khaorasan company. He didn't know what cargo it was carrying or where it was heading.
