Man beaten in north side home invasion
KMOV TV reports five suspects kicked in the front door of a home on the 5400 block of Claxton just before midnight.
Three people were inside the home. Two were able to run out a basement door. A third victim, described as a 52-year-old black male, was hit over the head while he tried to escape. He's being treated.
Police say the suspects got away with a flat-screen television and a cell phone.
Charges filed against man shot by woman while attacking her sister
Police say Joshua Jewell forced his way into a Highland apartment on Sunday. Once in side Jewell allegedly attacked the two sisters living there. During the attack on sister said she thought the man was going to kill her sibling. She grabbed her gun and fired two shots, with the second one hitting Jewell in the back.
Jewell continues to recover at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
Highland woman saves sister by shooting intruder
Fifty-five year old Debbie Keeny told police that she'd stepped outside for a smoke and when she turned to go back inside, a man forced his way into her apartment. She says he pushed her to the floor and then attacked her sister, 47 year old Donna Carlyle. The man reportedly choked Carlyle and demanded money.
Keeny says she grabbed her derringer pistol and warned the man that she'd shoot if he didn't let go of her sister. The man didn't stop, so she fired a warning shot. When he still didn't let go, she shot him in the back.
Police say the 33 year old suspect, a man from Troy, Illinois, is in critical condition with two gunshot wounds.
Police believe robbery was the motive, since several of the sister's neighbors at the Senior Plaza Apartments report hearing someone jiggle their doorknobs shortly before the attack.

St. Louis police are looking for three suspects who forced their way into a north city home overnight and robbed the man and woman who lived there. It happened about 1:30 this morning (Thursday) at a home in the 3900 block of North Florissant.
The man who lived there told police that someone had knocked on the door. When he answered it, three black males pushed past him. At least two of the suspects had guns.
The suspects stole jewelry and cash before fleeing on foot. Neither victim was injured.
