AT&T plans to hire 50 in St. Louis region

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) - The St. Louis area will be the beneficiary of a nationwide hiring push by AT&T.

 

The company is hiring a total of 3,000 retail sale and management employees nationwide--that includes about 240 in Missouri. 50 of the retail jobs will be in the St. Louis area--from Washington, to Edwardsville, Illinois.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri payrolls grew in January while the state's unemployment remained unchanged at 6 percent.
 
The state Department of Economic Development said Tuesday that Missouri employers added a net of 1,100 jobs in the first month of 2014.
 
The largest gain was in the leisure and hospitality sector, which added 5,100 jobs in January. The manufacturing sector grew by 2,500 positions, while the professional and business services industry grew by 2,200 jobs.
 
The largest losses were 6,100 in the trade, transportation and utilities sector and 3,300 in construction.
 
Missouri's civilian labor force was just over 3 million in January, an increase of about 1,800 from December. The labor force includes people with jobs and those who are on unemployment but looking for work.

A large investment in a Granite City plant should create a few dozen jobs.

Illinois and Kraft announce a $40 million investment in the plant there. The facility makes powdered beverages and the money will be used to buy four new pouch fillers. Kraft will need to hire 30 more people to handle the additional work.

The equipment should be up and running by 2014.

Express Scripts will add over 1,000 jobs to the St. Louis area over the next five years.

Governor Jay Nixon made the announcement today. He says the medication management giant is expanding its campus and will create around 1,500 new jobs. Express Scripts managed over 1.4 billion prescriptions last year.

The expansion is being paid for with nearly $7 million in bonds.
