A man is facing murder charges connected to remains found in an abandoned septic tank.
Prosecutors say Melvin Scherrer murdered Samuel Francis and stuffed his body inside the tank of a home near Bonne Terre. Francis was last seen on December 17 of last year and was reported missing on December 23.
In addition to the murder accusation, Scherrer faces four more felony charges. He is being held without bond.
The St. Fancois County Sheriff's Department has identified the remains found in a septic tank yesterday.
The remains were found just before noon on Thursday on unoccupied property outside of Bonne Terre. Investigators uses dental records to identify the remains as 38-year-old Samuel "Tick" Francis. Francis was last seen at a residence outside Desloge, Missouri on December 17, 2012.
He was reported missing December 23.
