Saturday, 15 March 2014 09:07 Published in Local News

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — A Michigan man faces sentencing this summer after pleading guilty to charges related to his role in robbing a southwestern Illinois bank worker restocking an automated teller machine.

Twenty-two-year-old Ramsey Fakhouri of Troy near Detroit entered the guilty plea Friday in East St. Louis to a bank robbery count.

Fakhouri and an 18-year-old man from Concord, Mich., were indicted last month in connection with the February 14th holdup of a Bradford National Bank worker outside that branch in Highland, east of St. Louis.

The bank worker was unharmed, and authorities say the robbery involved the theft of nearly $26,000.

Fakhouri's co-defendant awaits trial.

Fakhouri's sentencing is scheduled for July 11th.

Police: Student made up story of sex assault

Saturday, 15 March 2014 09:03 Published in Local News

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) — Police in St. Charles say a Lindenwood University student who reported being sexually attacked on campus has admitted fabricating the story.

The 21-year-old Des Peres woman is now charged with a misdemeanor count of making a false report.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the university sent an alert to more than 12,000 students after the woman went to police March 7th with her report. The woman told police she had been ambushed several nights earlier by a man hiding in library restroom stall. She said the man threatened her and tried to remove her leggings, but fled after she kicked him.

Police said the woman admitted during an interview this week that she made the story up, but did not explain why she did so.
