Pistorius enters courtroom for start of trial

Monday, 03 March 2014 02:23 Published in National News
PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) - Oscar Pistorius has entered a courtroom in South Africa for the start of his murder trial, walking past the mother of the woman he shot and killed a year ago.
The double-amputee Olympic athlete arrived in the courtroom at the high court in Pretoria wearing a dark gray suit and black tie. He sat and drank from a bottle of water.
Pistorius is charged with murder with premeditation in the shooting death of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in the pre-dawn hours of Valentine's Day last year.
Pistorius says he shot Steenkamp by accident, thinking she was an intruder inside his bathroom.
Steenkamp's mother, June, earlier entered the court dressed in black.

FALLON, Nev. (AP) — The Navy said Sunday night that the military pilot was killed when a fighter jet crashed during a training exercise in western Nevada a day earlier.
A spokeswoman for the Naval Air Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet said officials have determined the pilot's status on Sunday.
Lt. Reagan Lauritzen said it took rescue crews several hours to reach the site of Saturday's crash on a Navy range training complex east of Naval Air Station Fallon because of a snow storm and mountainous, remote terrain.
When they got there, they determined the F/A-18C, a U.S. Marine jet on loan to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, was a total loss.
The pilot's name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
