Clark-Pujols feud appears to be over

Tuesday, 11 February 2014 06:50 Published in Local News

Those who wanted to see two former Cardinals sluggers duke it out in court may be disappointed.  Albert Pujols had sued Jack Clark over allegations of performance-enhancing drug use.
Monday evening, Clark publicly retracted his comments and apologized.  The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Pujols followed shortly by accepting Clark's apology and plans to drop the lawsuit.
“I would like to address Albert Pujols’ pending defamation lawsuit and reconfirm that I have no knowledge whatsoever that Mr. Pujols has ever used illegal or banned PEDs,” Clark said in a statement he released and that was provided to the Post-Dispatch.  “I publicly retract my statements that Albert Pujols used such substances. During a heated discussion on air, I misspoke, and for that I sincerely apologize.”
The Post-Dispatch published the following statement by Pujols in response to Clark’s apology: “I have accepted Jack Clark’s retraction and apology to resolve my lawsuit against him and clear my name.”
Both Jack Clark and radio co-host Kevin Slaten were fired by station WGNU after Clark called Pujols "a juicer" on-air and claimed that a former Pujols trainer had told him the trainer had injected Pujols with PEDs.

Police looking for clues in Kirkwood hit & run death

Tuesday, 11 February 2014 06:42 Published in Local News

Police are hoping video surveillance cameras at nearby businesses will help lead them to the person who ran down a Kirkwood man late Sunday night, and kept going.
Police say 50 year old Joe Auffenberg was unconscious when rescue crews found him lying in the road in the 400 block of North Kirkwood Road, just south of Bodley Avenue.  He was rushed to the hospital, but died anyway.
Auffenberg's friends tell Fox 2 News he was a kind, caring man who shouldn't have been left to die in the street.
Now his friends and police are asking for the public's help to catch his killer. Anyone with information is asked to call Kirkwood Police 314-822-5858 or CrimeStoppers at 314-361-TIPS.

Former jail chief sues STL city for wrongful termination

Tuesday, 11 February 2014 06:37 Published in Local News

Former St. Louis corrections commissioner Gene Stubblefield says his termination in 2012 was racially motivated.  On Monday, he filed an employment discrimination complaint in federal court under the Civil Rights Act of 1964, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Mayor Francis Slay had removed Stubblefield from his post in 2011 after a series of jailbreaks and financial trouble in the corrections department.

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson had been the mayor's operations director at that time.  He investigated the management at the jail and reported several problems.

The city's Civil Service Commission upheld Stubblefield's firing the next year.

Stubblefield claims he was wrongly accused and says white city employees haven't been fired for similar misconduct.
