St. Louis Cardinals suing local nonprofit over ticket sales

ST. LOUIS (AP) – The St. Louis Cardinals have filed a lawsuit against a nonprofit, accusing it of breaching a contract and committing fraud by selling hundreds of tickets over face value.

The lawsuit says the Leagues of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which runs the Lewis & Clark Baseball League, last year was allotted 3,500 tickets at a discounted price through the team’s Cardinals Care program.

The suit claims the charity sold tickets for high-demand games online, instead of selling them for up to face value in fundraisers to support youth baseball.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1GwSJtM ) reports the lawsuit seeks to recover $40,475, which it says the charity obtained from selling tickets above face value, so it can be used for charity as intended.

An official of the St. Louis-based nonprofit declined to comment to the newspaper Tuesday.
