St. Louis County Executive issues State of Emergency for Ferguson

(KTRS) – St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger has declared a State of Emergency in response to last night’s violence in Ferguson.

The order places St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar in charge of emergency operations in Ferguson. Stenger’s order states “Chief Belmar shall exercise all powers and duties necessary to preserve order, prevent crimes, and protect the life and property of our citizens.”

Stenger also recognized the efforts of the St. Louis County Police, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and other law enforcement agencies for their response to protests over the weekend.
