St. Louis’ Homicide Rate Continues To Climb

St. Louis, MO (KTRS)  The murder rate in the City of St. Louis now stands at 76 following a violent weekend.

The latest murder happened early Sunday morning when 24-year-old Jeremy McCartney was found shot to death inside of an apartment on Chippewa at Morganford. Early Saturday morning, 27-year-old Travis Phillips was found murdered inside of a vacant house in north St. Louis on Sullivan and East Prairie.

Meanwhile, an apparent murder-suicide in south city is being investigated. The bodies of 42-year-old Tanisha Williams and 39-year-old Arvel Long were found shot to death in an apartment in the 3900 block of Fairview Avenue Sunday morning.

Neighbors told police they heard arguing and a loud noise coming from the apartment Friday night. Police say neighbors attempted to contact them Friday and on Saturday. A neighbor then used a spare key to get into the apartment on Sunday and found the bodies of Williams and Long.

At least four non-fatal shootings were also reported over the weekend in St. Louis.
