Storms Cause Wide Spread Problems Throughout The Area

St. Louis, MO (KTRS)  The recent severe storms are to blame for flash flooding in Lincoln County. This has resulted in several water rescues in the area. The American Red Cross has set up a shelter at Sacred Heart Church School in Troy.

In the metro-east, a lightning strike sparked a fire at a Granite City apartment.  Firefighters were called to the two-story building in the 2000 block of Pontoon Beach Road Thursday night. No injuries were reported, but fire officials say the building was destroyed in the fire.

As of Friday morning, about 6,000 Ameren-Illinois customers in the metro-east were without power. About 25,000 customers were without power at the height of the outage.

Ameren officials say most of the outages are in East St. Louis and Belleville. Power is expected to be fully restored by 6 p.m.

You are urged to contact Ameren at 1-800-755-5000 if you see a downed power line.  To check on the current status of power outages in your area, go to www.ameren.com
