JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) – The man who led the Joplin school district as it rebuilt from devastating destruction after the May 2011 tornado say he will retire at the end of June.

Superintendent C.J. Huff announced Thursday that he is leaving the district after seven years to spend more time with his family. The 45-year-old Huff told The Joplin Globe (http://bit.ly/1HUyR6Z ) he was not asked to resign and had not been disciplined. His resignation is effective June 30.

The tornado damaged or destroyed 10 school buildings. Since then, new schools have opened and others were repaired.

School board president Jeff Koch said details of Huff’s separation agreement, which was worked out Tuesday night, will be released Friday.

The Globe reports Huff has clashed with the school board in recent months, particularly with two members.
