Trooper in drowning case returns to work

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) – A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper at the center of a drowning case returns to work Tuesday.

Trooper Anthony Piercy was driving a boat when a handcuffed man fell overboard and drowned. Iowan Brandon Ellingson was arrested last month on suspicion of boating while intoxicated. Troopers handcuffed Ellingson behind his back and while transporting him to the shore, he either fell or jumped overboard.

A spokesman for the Water Patrol said he did not know why Piercy was allowed back to work today.
