St. Louis, MO  (KTRS)  The legislature passed a Voter ID law that went into effect last week, leaving many voters wondering how it will affect them in future elections. So, Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft is conducting a statewide informational tour to educate voters about the changes.

In a nutshell, voters will now be required to show a government-issued photo identification card to cast a ballot. To address concerns that this will disenfranchise certain voting demographics, the state is offering free ID cards.

Voters without photo ID cards will be able to cast provisional ballots, which will be counted if photo identification is later provided. The new voter ID law will be in effect for the July 11 special election to fill a seat on the Board of Aldermen left vacant by St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson.

Thursday’s tour stops are as follows:

  • 8:00 a.m.: Dardenne Prairie — Dardenne Prairie City Hall 2032 Hanley Road
