Wentzville, MO  (KTRS)  Wentzville is celebrating its newly renovated Vietnam War Memorial.

Despite the high winds and a downpour, over a hundred people turned out for the ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the renovations to the fifty year-oldmemorial. Alderman Michael Rhodes spearheaded this effort.

“Having grown up here and being a veteran myself, the goal was to refurbish the memorial, but also to have it finished in time for the riders who visit on their ride to D.C. This community and all those involved met that challenge.” said Rhodes.

Expansions to the memorial include a plaza around the existing red granite monument , added lighting, landscaping, seating, and a ramp for wheelchairs.

Wentzville is home to the first Vietnam Veterans Memorial in the United States.
