Woman sentenced for accidental shooting

St. Louis, MO (KTRS) – A Festus woman will spend seven years in prison for shooting and killing her boyfriend with a gun she thought was unloaded.

The Post-Dispatch reports that Makenzie Halinski pleaded guilty to killing Cole Campbell in June. Halinski had been drinking and smoking marijuana. She told police that Campbell had been showing her how to use guns, handed her a gun and told her it was unloaded and the safety was on.

Halinski said she pointed the gun at Campbell and pulled the trigger, thinking the gun was empty.
