Youth Summit Reviewed At Ferguson Commission Meeting

St. Louis, MO (KTRS)  Educational entertainment was presented at the 14th meeting of the Ferguson Commission.

A review of the Arts Speak Youth Summit was presented at Tuesday night’s meeting at the Emerson YMCA in north county.  Participants of the Arts Speak Youth Summit gave musical and theatrical presentations .  This was to demonstrate how they used performance to express their concerns, hopes, and vision for the region and the nation.

Performer and community activist, Clifton Kinnie, said as the one year anniversary of the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown approaches, it’s important to continue to fight for change. Kinnie added, “As this year comes up, I hope we don’t just say we made it a year. No we have to continue going and continue fighting, so understand that this song was a call to action and this meeting should be a call to action and anything you do forth this after should be a call to action.”

Co-Chair Starsky Wilson, followed that sentiment. “Because Mike was not the last young person in our community who has been harmed by the challenges, by the fragmentation of adult relationships, by the insufficiency of public policy, and by the insufficient public will to care for him and other young people like him, this gathering is even more important.”

Commissioner Rasheen Aldridge was absent from the meeting.  It was announced that he was participating in the protest outside of the St. Louis Police Department.

The next meeting of the Ferguson Commission is scheduled for August 10th.
