St. Louis, MO (KTRS) – A ban on guns in the St. Louis Zoo will remain in effect for now.

A judge granted a gun rights activist a two-month extension to prepare his legal argument against the prohibition. Jeffry Smith called on gun owners to bring their guns to the zoo on June 13–they were going to march through the zoo while openly carrying their weapons.

One day before the event, a judge granted the zoo a temporary restraining order, prohibiting Smith from entering the zoo with a gun. Smith argues that a law passed last year in Missouri grants citizens the right to carry guns in publicly-funded institutions, like the zoo. The zoo argues that a ban of weapons in amusement parks applies to the zoo.

Smith, who is from Ohio, led an open carry march in St. Louis last year.
