Zoo’s newest baby arrives on Hump Day

The St. Louis Zoo’s newest addition arrived on Hump Day — which is most appropriate considering Presley is an 86-pound, brand new baby camel. The newborn Bactrian camel born Wednesday is the offspring of Elvis and Celeste.

The two-hump Bactrian’s are kept in the south section of the zoo’s Antelope Yards.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that little Presley could tower more than seven feet tall at the humps and weigh up to 1,800 pound when he’s grown.

There are fewer than 1,000 of the endangered Bactrian camels remaining in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia and China
