Hanaway pushes law and order in bid for Missouri governor

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Former Missouri House Speaker Catherine Hanaway is touting her experience as a former U.S. attorney in her bid for governor.

The Republican from Ladue faces a competitive GOP primary Tuesday against suburban St. Louis businessman John Brunner, former Navy SEAL officer Eric Greitens and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder. All four oppose abortion and back gun rights.
Hanaway has focused her campaign on public safety. She backs harsher penalties for those who shoot police and supports police body cameras.

She served as U.S. attorney from 2005 to 2009.

Hanaway also led the Republican takeover of the Missouri House in 2002 and then became the chamber’s first and only female speaker.

She’d be Missouri’s first female governor if she wins the GOP nomination and then the general election.
