Howard Richards is a seven-year NFL veteran, a St. Louis native, and a Mizzou alum, which is perhaps how after relocating for career pursuits over the last 30 years, he found himself returning home as a Mizzou Football Analyst for the Big 550 KTRS in 2014.
Back in Richards' collegiate football career from 1977-1980, he was a four-year starter at right tackle and led the Tigers to three straight bowl games. Richards, who was a standout on the football field, also excelled in the classroom. After switching his major from Engineering to Special Education, he finally landed in Communication with an emphasis in Radio, TV, & Film, citing that it was "the best decision [he] ever made."
Richards, however, first pursued a professional football career when he was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft in 1981. He played six years for the Dallas Cowboys before playing his seventh and final season with the Seattle Seahawks in 1987, retiring due to injury.
Richards, then, explored different professions, including security positions for the Central Intelligence Agency (for 13 years) and opening a Real Estate business in Washington D.C.
Today, Richards resides in St. Louis and provides vital analytical insight to the Mizzou Football broadcast for KTRS. Outside of his time in the broadcast booth, Richards can be seen spending time with his daughter and enjoying DIY construction projects.
Be sure to listen for his voice on Friday night previews and Sunday recaps for Mizzou Football on the Big 550 KTRS!
