      What's going on around KTRS:

   With the start of September comes the start of Mizzou Football! The University of Missouri will open up the season with a #24 ranking against in-state foe Southeast Missouri State University on Saturday, September 5th at 3:00 PM. The Big 550 KTRS Pregame Show begins two hours before kickoff. The Tigers will look to defend its 2013 and 2014 SEC East Championship Titles as it enters its fourth year in the conference.       

         In preparation for Mizzou Football, start your week off with Tiger Talk on Monday nights from 7-9:00 PM and on Friday nights with Jim Holder. Every Mizzou game can be heard live at the Big 550 KTRS!

St. Louis Men's Group Against Cancer

5th Annual KTRS Radiothon
         On Thursday, August 20th, the Big 550 KTRS Radio hosted its 5th Annual Radiothon at the Nestle Purina Headquarters in record fashion. With the help of our loyal listeners and incredible sponsors, we were able to raise $46,775 for the St. Louis Men's Group Against Cancer, a 25% increase from August 2014!

Paul Warner, a St. Louis native and product of the Lindbergh School District, got his start in radio in 1962.

Since then, Warner has worked for various news departments in the local area including the Big 550 KTRS Radio, the St. Louis Post Dispatch, and WIL. Warner also spent time in Denver, Colorado working for the number one local news source, KUSA. 

Now, Warner has returned to KTRS starring as the host of the ever so popular Saturday morning show "The Yard Sale." His show provides listeners with a variety of products for sale in the St. Louis area.

   Tune in to the Big Sports Show on KTRS for "Our Tribute to Red" on October 1st hosted by Jay Randolph Sr! During this special event, KTRS will honor Red Schoendienst for 70 consecutive seasons of wearing a Major League uniform as a player, coach or manager!

Red Schoendienst Facts: 
  • Albert Fred "Red" Schoendienst was born February 2nd, 1923 in Germantown, Illinois
  • Played for the St. Louis Cardinals for 19 years (1945-56, 1961-63)
  • Apart of 10 All-Star teams
  • Cardinals manager from 1965-1976; 2nd longest tenure in the team's history behind Tony LaRussa
  • Named National League Manager of the Year in 1967 & 1968
  • Manager of the 1967 World Series team; Won National League pennants in 1967 & 1968
  • Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989

Correction: In the August 2015 Newsletter, it was erroneously reported that KTRS Creative Services Director Steve Wein won the International Radio and Production Award. Wein has received 12 International Radio and Production nominations in his career including 2nd runner up in 2009 and 1st runner up in 2010, but has not won.
